The Pit: Diptych brings together both original canvases derived from Akio Evans' 2024 Air Force 1 diorama commissioned by Baltimore author D. Watkins.
The original sculpture began with a Nike Air Force 1 transformed into the iconic orange couch from The Pit in Season One of The Wire. Evans incorporated imagery cut directly from The Wire coffee table book gifted to him by Watkins, constructing a miniature world from the pages of the book around the sneaker.
In 2026, Evans returned to that original work and translated its imagery onto two separate canvases.
Book → Air Force 1 → Diorama → Canvas.
Offered here together as originally conceived, the two works preserve both sides of that transformation as a single collected set.
Two original mixed-media works on canvas.
18 × 24 inches each
2026
One-of-one diptych
