The Pit: Right Side revisits an original mixed-media diorama created by Akio Evans in May 2024 for Baltimore author D. Watkins.
The original sculpture transformed a Nike Air Force 1 into the iconic orange couch from The Pit in Season One of The Wire. Using imagery physically cut from The Wire coffee table book gifted to Evans by Watkins, the shoe became a three-dimensional study of Baltimore, storytelling and material.
More than two years later, Evans returned to the original composition, transferring imagery from the diorama onto canvas and allowing individual moments from the sculpture to become works of their own.
Original mixed-media artwork on canvas.
